as extreme cold affects the state this week, entergy mississippi is working hard to make sure customers can stay warm and safe.
winter weather in our service area has arrived, bringing snow, icing and cold temperatures to some areas. after the frozen precipitation moves out overnight tonight, we will see an extended period of extremely low temperatures in all four states we serve.
some parts of our service area may see snow, ice, or freezing rain beginning this afternoon. this will be followed by an extended period of very low temperatures in all four states we serve.
while restoring power outages caused by severe weather and high winds that moved through the state friday, entergy mississippi has also been monitoring and is prepared to respond to another major weather event expected across our service territory early this week.
entergy has restored service to more than 22,086 customers. about 1,516 customers remain without power as of 1 p.m.
as of 7:00 p.m., 3,887 customers remain without power. damage assessment has identified damages to 83 poles, 7 transformers, 58 cross arms, and 225 spans (61,875 feet) of downed wire. a workforce of over 580 damage assessors, vegetation crews, line workers, and support personnel are diligently working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible through this event.
even as entergy employees continue to respond to outages caused by widespread severe thunderstorms, our workers are prepared to respond to another major winter event across our service.
early morning storms bringing strong, gusty high winds entered our entergy service territory causing fallen trees and broken tree limbs resulting in outages and damages to our facilities. outages peaked at 10,597 customers impacted at 9:15 am. as of 1:30 pm, 5,712 customers remain without power.
